It’s Christmas, and this year Emily Halliday is trying something new at the struggling revival movie theater she runs for her great-grandmother. After all, how many times can you show It’s a Wonderful Life?
Emily was hoping to make a little profit on “Holiday Hijinks,” her “counter-programming Christmas” event. What she never expected — plot twist — is that an unexpected guest will turn her own life into a romantic comedy.
Holiday Hijinks is the first in a new series of cozy romances set in the small Pacific Northwest town of Silver Birch, Washington. A short read (15K) for a busy time, Holiday Hijinks introduces a whole new cast of characters while bringing back “cameos” from the “Meredith Manor Hotel” books, which are also set in Silver Birch.

Kelly’s affected too.

The Christmas Experiment
Kara McKendrick is having a really bad day when someone leaves a nickel as a tip at the bakery/coffee house where she works. On a whim, she throws the coin into the town’s iconic wishing well, asking the universe for “just a little help.” Not two hours later, that wish is fulfilled in a most unlikely way when wealthy classmate Rob Winters asks Kara to pretend to be his fiancée for the Christmas season, a charade that will please his father and also keep him from being railroaded into a loveless marriage with an ambitious and ruthless debutante.
Although uneasy about being “paid” for her services, Kara accepts Rob’s proposal and finds that over the course of several different parties and a Christmas dinner, what started out as a harmless (but lucrative) bit of make-believe has morphed into real feelings. Not just for Rob, but for his whole family. When she realizes that the man Rob knows as his “fun uncle” is secretly trying to undermine the family business — with the help of the woman his family wants Rob to marry — Kara intervenes.
A little Christmas magic and a whole lot of love later, Kara finds she has everything she could ever wish for — and more.More info →

The Flamingo Motel
Mermaid Beach is a tiny Florida coastal town, the kind of place tourists drive through on their way to somewhere bigger — maybe stopping for gas or a bite to eat — but never staying long. But when a hurricane damages the Mermaid Beach motel her parents left her, Casey Johnson takes the opportunity to leave behind a broken relationship, the high cost of big city living, and a life she no longer finds satisfying and return to her hometown. Before long, she’s knee-deep in renovations to the Flamingo Motel thanks to the town’s unofficial “mayor,” who may or may not be a retired gangster. Before she’s even open, she has her first guest, a shaggy biker whose tattoos and death metal T-shirts are camouflage for the good guy he turns out to be.
The first in a new series about the lives and loves of Mermaid Beach residents, Flamingo Motel is a loving homage to the beach towns and mom and pop guest houses still struggling to exist in the days of the franchise motel chains that encrust I-95 like barnacles.More info →
